Young people from Youth Concern help brighten up Cambridge Street underpass in Aylesbury

A group of young people from local charity Youth Concern, in partnership with the Youth Offending Service have transformed the Cambridge Street underpass.

A group of young people from local charity Youth Concern, in partnership with the Youth Offending Service who helped signpost and provided additional staff and support - have helped transform the Cambridge Street underpass in Aylesbury into a colourful and welcoming space for the community.

The project, led by the Aylesbury Community Board and delivered in partnership with Aylesbury Town Council, saw the underpass brought to life with vibrant murals designed and painted by the young volunteers. The artwork reflects themes of community and positivity, and aims to improve the experience of those walking through the area.

This initiative builds on the success of a similar campaign at the Vale Park underpass last year, where creative improvements helped revitalise the space and engage local residents.

The Cambridge Street project gave young people the opportunity to contribute creatively to their town, while learning new skills and working collaboratively to enhance a public space. The transformation was celebrated with an opening event attended by residents, councillors and representatives from the organisations involved.

Steve Bowles, Cabinet Member for Communities at Buckinghamshire Council, said: "This is a fantastic example of how we can support young people to take pride in their local area and make a real difference. The transformation of the Cambridge Street underpass shows the power of creativity and collaboration, and I’m delighted to see such positive engagement from our younger residents."

The project forms part of wider efforts to improve public spaces across Buckinghamshire and encourage community-led initiatives that bring people together
