Waddesdon Greenway link to schools now complete

Buckinghamshire Council has officially opened the ‘Waddesdon Greenway School Link’, an extension which connects the schools and nursery in the village to the existing popular Waddesdon Greenway route.

The extension also means residents and visitors can now travel ‘car free’ between Aylesbury Town Centre and Waddesdon Village.

Before the new extension was added, the Waddesdon Greenway route ended at Waddesdon Manor car park and did not provide a direct connection on into Waddesdon village centre. The extension now provides an 800m off-road link from School Lane (running alongside Waddesdon School field) through to Warmstone Lane and the Waddesdon Greenway.

At 3m wide (except at pinch points) and finished with solar stud lighting, the new path is suitable for walking, wheeling and cycling. In the coming months, plans are in place for Waddesdon Parish Council and Haddenham and Waddesdon Community Board to plant trees and hedges along the route; this will include a new community orchard.

Steven Broadbent is Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport. He said:

“This new link will make a big difference to local people in Waddesdon and beyond. It allows a safe, car-free connection to the schools and nursery in the village and offers an even better experience for people in the wider area who might be wheeling, cycling or walking.

“The new link also now enables children to cycle safely to school from Aylesbury to Waddesdon schools. And likewise, residents from Waddesdon to get to Aylesbury schools, work and Aylesbury Vale Parkway rail station for onward travel – such as commuting into London.

“It’s a great example of how the council has worked closely with local Members and the community to deliver a really critical piece of local improvement work. This project also demonstrates our commitment to bringing forward more sustainable active travel routes across the county, with the option of connecting into onward journeys by bus and train.”

To help make walking, wheeling and cycling across Buckinghamshire easier and accessible for all, the council is developing Local Cycling Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs), including a Buckinghamshire-wide LCWIP that will set out future plans for infrastructure improvements across the county.
