New crossing delivered to support Winslow Station and local active travel
Buckinghamshire Council has completed work on a new signalised toucan crossing on the A413 Buckingham Road in Winslow, making it safer and easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle in the area.
The crossing, which connects to the existing shared-use foot and cycle path, will help residents and future train passengers reach the new Winslow Railway Station when it opens. It provides a safer route for students travelling to and from Sir Thomas Fremantle School as well as linking into the wider active travel network, including the existing shared-use path route that connects Winslow, Padbury and Buckingham.
The new crossing follows a public consultation earlier this year and forms part of the council’s commitment to improving sustainable travel options and supporting local communities. By creating safer and more accessible routes, the council aims to provide opportunities for more people to choose active travel for everyday journeys and to support healthier lifestyles.
Thomas Broom, Buckinghamshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport, said:
“We’re pleased to deliver this new crossing which will make a real difference for people travelling around Winslow. It’s an important step in supporting users of the new Winslow Railway Station to travel actively to and from the station. This investment will also help local residents, students and visitors move around safely and sustainably.”
The project has been funded through developer contributions (Section 106) and DEFRA’s Rural England Prosperity Fund. It represents a significant investment in local infrastructure and demonstrates Buckinghamshire Council’s commitment to creating safer, greener and more connected communities.
The crossing is now complete and ready for use ahead of the opening of the new Winslow Railway Station.
