High Wycombe HRC judged best in the country!

Buckinghamshire Council’s High Wycombe Household Recycling Centre (HRC) has been judged the best in the country at the 'Let's Recycle' awards for excellence in recycling and waste management.

The site was singled out for many reasons, including high customer satisfaction rates and the excellent on-site reuse shop, run by South Bucks Hospice. It came first in the ‘Civic Amenity Site of the Year’ category.

Like all Buckinghamshire Council HRCs, residents can visit High Wycombe HRC to dispose of and recycle household waste. During 2022 the site, which is managed by contractor FCC Environment, diverted 114 tonnes of waste to the reuse shop, 20% more than the year before. It underwent an upgrade last year to make visits even smoother for residents; new digital screens at the entrance offer advice to residents and other signage and parking was improved.

In a recent survey, the site received 100% overall customer satisfaction rates for staff helpfulness, appearance and tidiness, signage and site layout. All of these strong points were recognised by the ‘Let’s Recycle Awards’ judges.

Councillor Gareth Williams is Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment. He said:

“We’re absolutely delighted that the first-class service we offer at High Wycombe HRC has been recognised in this way. Key to us is making the site easy to use and for us to maximise the amount of waste that we can divert to be re-used. We of course reflect these high standards across all ten of our HRCs and I’m extremely pleased to see the hard work that goes into managing these sites is reflected in the extremely positive feedback from customers. These are important facilities for our residents and we do our best to maintain the highest possible standards at each location.”

Steve Longdon, Operations Director for FCC Environment said:

“Our five year contract with Buckinghamshire Council commenced on 1st April of last year and the re-tender gave us an opportunity to review and improve ever further the services we provide to residents so this amazing award win is a real testament to the fresh start we were able to make. I am immensely proud of the entire FCC team across Buckinghamshire as well as the High Wycombe team. They should all be very proud of their hard work.”

Jackie Ward, Chief Executive Officer at South Bucks Hospice said:

“We are very proud to be part of this success story. Our shop at the High Wycombe Household Recycling Centre is extremely important to us, providing vital funds for our patients. We are also delighted to see from the results of a customer survey, published in the awards submission, that the recent changes to our shop layout seem to have gone down so well with the public.”
