Half term roadworks impacting travel around Aylesbury

Over the October half term (Fri 24 Oct to Fri 31 Oct) roadworks will likely impact those travelling into and out of Aylesbury.

As well as the planned works, other emergency roadworks may be unavoidable and occur during this period, potentially leading to significant travel disruption.

Road users are strongly encouraged to ‘Check before you travel’ by using One.Network before setting off and consider safely using a SatNav to see live travel times – even for familiar journeys.

The level of demand from Buckinghamshire Highways and other companies for space to carry out works on the county’s network is increasing. Whether it’s Buckinghamshire Highways undertaking road maintenance works and improvements, utility firms dealing with ageing pipes and networks that need repairs and upgrades, or pressure to deliver high broadband speeds which require new cables to be laid, the increasing demand is making co-ordinating competing works more and more challenging for the council. These companies have a legal right to work on the roads to access their equipment and provide new services to residents and businesses.

Thomas Broom, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport commented:

“Buckinghamshire Council schedules planned roadworks throughout the year to ensure the least possible amount of disruption to motorists at any one time. Like many local authorities, we also use the school half-term holidays, when there is usually less traffic on the roads and therefore less disruption to road users, to schedule roadworks.

“The council plays a vital role in managing planned roadworks through our Streetworks team. The team inspect works regularly to make sure those working on our roads are sticking to the conditions of the permit they’ve been granted and are now working 7am to 7pm on weekdays and 8am to 4pm over the weekend. We carefully monitor all works including emergency works and manage the impact where possible.

“I want to ask road users for their patience and understanding over the half term, and to encourage everyone, including those using passenger transport, to ‘check before you travel’ and plan your journey before setting off.”
