Council encourages businesses to help shape the county’s future
Speaking at the Buckinghamshire Business First Leaders Dinner on Tuesday 2 December, Buckinghamshire Council Leader Steven Broadbent outlined his ambitions for a thriving local economy built on collaboration, innovation, and shared responsibility.
“Buckinghamshire’s success depends on strong partnerships. By working together – public, private, and education sectors – we can overcome challenges, unlock growth, and secure our place in the UK’s innovation economy,” said Steven.
Buckinghamshire Council is determined to provide outward-facing leadership that champions Buckinghamshire’s interests locally, regionally, and nationally. With major challenges ahead – including financial pressures, environmental protection, and economic uncertainty – the Leader emphasised the need for innovative solutions and strong partnerships to attract investment and sustain growth.
One of Buckinghamshire’s greatest strengths is its vibrant small business community, which forms the backbone of the local economy. Thousands of independent enterprises operate across the county, driving innovation and creating jobs. This strong network of small firms not only supports local supply chains but also contributes to Buckinghamshire’s reputation as place where your business can grow and flourish.
“Small Business Saturday takes place this weekend – a nationwide initiative celebrating the vital role small businesses play in our communities and economy. We are encouraging residents and businesses alike to show their support by shopping locally and engaging with independent enterprises in our town centres,” added Steven.
The council remains committed to building a prosperous economy that rewards work, supports education, and leverages Buckinghamshire’s unique assets, while fostering stronger, more resilient communities.
The Buckinghamshire Economic Growth Plan (2025 to 2035) sets an ambitious target to boost productivity in the county by 2%. Businesses are encouraged to:
- Invest in Buckinghamshire: Promote the county as a prime location for investment and innovation.
- Scale Up with Us: Access tailored business support, finance, and national networks.
- Be Part of Our Innovation Testbed: Trial new technologies and collaborate on R&D projects.
- Share Your Needs: From infrastructure to skills, help shape the Local Plan and remove barriers to growth.
- Collaborate on Skills: Partner with colleges and universities to create career pathways and retain talent locally.
