Celebrating Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in Buckinghamshire

A reminder of celebrations taking place in Buckinghamshire and how you can join in.

With less than two weeks to go until Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend (2–5 June), here’s a reminder of celebrations taking place in Buckinghamshire and how you can join in.

Street parties, Big Lunches and community events

Buckinghamshire Council has waived the temporary street closure fee for Jubilee street parties over the Bank Holiday weekend and are delighted that more than 90 groups have taken advantage of this offer.

There are many more community events taking place across the county, from Big Lunches to parties, many of which are listed on the council’s events directory. If you are hosting an event, please feel free to add it to the online directory.

If you would like to invite the Chairman of the Council to your event, please email [email protected]

You could also invite your local Councillor; find your local Councillor and their contact details.

Lord Lieutenant’s Service of Thanksgiving

Lord Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire, Countess Howe, is hosting a Service of Thanksgiving for HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at All Saints Parish Church in High Wycombe on Sunday 29 May.

Attendance at the service is by invitation only, but everyone is invited to join by streaming the service live. Watch the service from 2:45pm on 29 May.

A copy of the order of service will be available on the council website prior to the service.

Activities

The council has Jubilee activity packs available to download from their website. These have also been sent out to schools and care homes.

A Jubilee resource pack from Learning and Sharing Together is also available with ideas for celebrating with different generations.

Celebrate the Jubilee with Buckinghamshire Libraries

Join in the fun at the library, with an array of diverse and interesting events (and a fair amount of tea drinking and cake consuming!).

From talks with a town crier and a former Royal footman to commemorative pebble painting and crafts galore for children, there are over 60 planned events in Buckinghamshire libraries for you to enjoy.

Discover what’s on for the Jubilee in your local library.

Buckinghamshire Archives Jubilee Exhibition

Buckinghamshire Libraries are delighted to be hosting a pop-up exhibition by Buckinghamshire Archives demonstrating how Buckinghamshire has celebrated past Jubilees.

The exhibition will be travelling around Buckinghamshire Libraries on these dates:

  • 16 May to 7 June
  • High Wycombe Library and Princes Risborough Library
  • 9 June to 22 June
  • Marlow Library and Aylesbury Library
  • 24 June to 16 July
  • Amersham Library and Buckingham Library

Schools Cake Competition

School children across Buckinghamshire have been busy creating baked masterpieces for the council’s Platinum Jubilee Schools Cake Competition. The final will be taking place at the start of June. Keep an eye on the council’s social media channels for pictures of the delicious cakes and to discover the winners.

Cllr Peter Strachan, Lead Member for the Platinum Jubilee, said:

“Excitement is building now we’re a matter of days away from the historic, once in a lifetime occasion of our monarch celebrating a Platinum Jubilee.

“I’ve been hearing all about the plans residents in Buckinghamshire have to make the most of the Jubilee and the four-day weekend, and it sounds like it’s going to be a wonderful few days.

“Fellow Members and I are welcoming invitations to community events across the county, so if you would like to invite your local councillor, please do so. The council would also love to see photos and videos from your celebrations to share on our digital channels and show everyone how Buckinghamshire is honouring the Queen.”
