Buckinghamshire Council shortlisted for Keep Britain Tidy’s Network Awards 2023

Buckinghamshire Council has been chosen as a finalist for Keep Britain Tidy’s Network Awards 2023.

The council was shortlisted for the ‘Community Engagement’ category – with the award recognising actions that have empowered communities to take responsibility and contribute to improving the quality of their local environment.

Keep Britain Tidy shortlisted Buckinghamshire Council after its Country Parks Events team developed and delivered a month-long waste awareness campaign at Buckinghamshire’s Country Parks in spring 2022.

As part of the project, the council collaborated with Keep Britain Tidy, Buckinghamshire Council’s Waste team, San Remo Catering, Rowley Farm, Men in Sheds, and a local wildlife rescue centre to deliver an insightful 'Waste Awareness Day' and 'Litter Bug Trail' in Black Park. Park visitors were encouraged to collect litter using a ‘Grab and Go’ litter pick station, and the council ran a social media competition for visitors to post an image of themselves litter picking in Black Park during the dates the trail was running. This encouraged a month-long push on litter picking across all of Buckinghamshire’s Country Parks.

Commenting on the shortlisting, Clive Harriss, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

“It’s tremendous news and a testament to the hard work and ingenuity of our Country Parks and Waste teams.

“I understand that out of the around 100 entries that Keep Britain Tidy received, just three local authorities were shortlisted in each category. This shows just how well we’ve done to become a finalist.”

Keep Britain Tidy spokesperson commented:

“Our Network Awards celebrate the most innovative litter, waste and space solutions developed by local authorities, often with the incredible collaboration and contribution of residents. Our hope is that these fantastic initiatives will inspire others to do the same.”

Buckinghamshire Council will find out if they’ve won at Keep Britain Tidy’s Network Awards ceremony on 9 February 2023.
