Be a part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean!
Back for 2026, between 13 – 29 March, the annual Great British Spring Clean encourages residents, communities and businesses to work in partnership with organisations and councils to collect and safely dispose of litter from their local streets, parks and beaches.
Each year we support this campaign from Keep Britain Tidy, which is the country’s biggest mass action environmental campaign, and last year was a record-breaking year for Bucks, seeing:
- over 160 organised litter picking events in the county
- more than 1,622 volunteers taking part
- over 3,887 bags of litter collected
- and over 4,055 volunteer hours clocked.
This year the theme is ‘Love Where You Live, with a strengthened focus on helping to clean up the places and spaces we care most about, and you can take part!
Get involved
Whether it’s with friends, family or even colleagues, the Great British Spring Clean is the perfect time to organise or join a local litter pick and help keen our county clean and green. The county belongs to everyone who lives and works here and we're hoping to encourage even more volunteers than last year to take part in 2026.
We offer year-long support for individuals, groups or communities to organise a community litter pick, including:
- Providing the free hire of equipment e.g., litter pickers, bags, hi vis vests, gloves and hoops (subject to availability)
- Offering to collect the rubbish gathered for free from an agreed, designated point or residential address.
For information about how to join another group to litter pick, go to the Bucks Online Directory to see if there’s a group in your area.
Safety guidance for litter picking
The safety of anyone taking part in a community litter pick is of utmost importance.
Please only litter pick where you feel safe and comfortable to do so. Always litter pick in daylight, and wear appropriate clothing and footwear, including a hi vis vest if possible. Please do not litter pick along roads with a speed limit of more than 30mph, highways or highway verges, or any roads where there is no pavement or footpath. Avoid litter picking on steep slopes, cliff edges or in water courses.
When carrying out your litter pick, if you come across any incidents of fly tipping please leave the waste in situ and report fly tipping online- this will allow us to investigate and arrange for the appropriate organisation to remove the waste.
For more information on what not to collect, how to report hazards and dangerous items, and where it may or may not be suitable to carry out a litter pick please read the full guidance on litter picking.
