Funerals arranged by us (public health funerals)

Funeral arrangements

If we accept the referral, we will take on the responsibility and arrange a cremation. If we can establish that a cremation would go against the deceased wishes, a burial will be considered.

A public health funeral will include:

  • registering the death
  • arranging a funeral director
  • the supply of a basic coffin
  • transport the deceased to the crematorium or cemetery

We will not get involved where there are relatives, executors of a will or others willing to make the arrangements themselves.

Deaths at NHS trusts

When someone dies in, or on the way to, an NHS Trust hospital, that NHS Trust may take on the statutory duty to make funeral arrangements.
