6. Responsibility and accountability
All sponsorship bids shall be approved by the relevant Head of Service in consultation with the relevant Service Director and where over £2,999, the relevant Corporate Director. Agreements over £5,000 require additional steps. All Sponsorship Agreements must be referred to Legal & Financial Services for review prior to signing.
Before seeking or offering sponsorship, Council Officers must consider and complete the ‘Officer Sponsorship Checklist’ document in conjunction with this Policy.
Any organisation wishing to sponsor a Council owned product or service must adhere to this Policy and to the Sponsorship Agreement Terms & Conditions.
In exceptional circumstances the Council may be responsible for delivery of an event that transcends local policy in the wider interest, and which requires suspension of the Council’s general prohibition on entering sponsorship arrangements with certain categories of organisation. In such circumstances a suspension of policy may only be considered with the written agreement of both the Chief Executive and the Leader of the Council and having taken due account of the balance of reputational vulnerability and the benefit of obtaining sponsorship to deliver an exceptional event.
