Aylesbury and Winslow Market Regulations (Terms and Conditions for Market Traders)

Last updated: 2 February 2024

Introduction

Buckinghamshire Council ( “the Council”) operates a number of separate outdoor markets in both Aylesbury and Winslow town centres, which the Council controls through these Market Regulations and any applicable bylaws (which the Council can supply upon request).

In Aylesbury, a general market is held by the Council on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays of each week.

In Winslow, there is one general market held by the Council on Wednesday of each week.

The Council also holds a foodie market in Aylesbury on Fridays within the town’s general market.

These markets are collectively referred to in these Market Regulations as “the Market”, and these Market Regulations shall apply to each of those markets and to all and any traders trading on, or applying to trade from, these markets.

In the event of any conflict between these Market Regulations and applicable bylaws, the relevant bylaw shall prevail.

If a trader shall be in contravention of any applicable bylaw then the Council shall be entitled to exercise any of its rights under regulation 14 of these Market Regulations without prejudice to any action it may take to enforce the relevant bylaw in the magistrates court as necessary and appropriate.

Aylesbury and Winslow Markets

These Market Regulations apply to all traders, whether regular or casual, trading on pitches at the Market. In these Market Regulations, “trader” shall mean both a regular trader and a casual trader except where the context otherwise admits.

Traders need permission from the council, in the form of a licence, to trade from the Market. Any such licence will be subject to these Market Regulations.

Market licences are reviewed and renewed annually in March each year by the council.

The council reserves the right in its absolute discretion to refuse any application for a licence to trade on the Market.
