Improvements to Five Points Roundabout, Iver

About the works

Work is taking place on the busy A412 west of the Five Points Roundabout and Wood Lane south in Iver.

The works comprise:

  • the signalisation of the roundabout to improve capacity and address existing congestion issues
  • significant repairs and upgrades to the existing drainage infrastructure

This work will be completed in phases, with 3 different organisations involved:

  • Buckinghamshire Council
  • Pinewood Studios
  • a statutory services provider

All 3 organisations are working together to co-ordinate the work and carry it out as efficiently as possible to keep the time required to complete it to a minimum.

Who is co-ordinating the roadworks

Our Streetworks Team is working with all 3 organisations to co-ordinate this planned work.

They'll postpone any other roadworks in the area to keep traffic moving as much as possible (unless they are emergency works, which we are unable to stop).

We'll publish updates on the project here.

Our latest update (22 May 2025)

View our latest updates below.

A412 westbound road closure (bank holiday weekend)

We're closing the A412 westbound lanes leaving the Five Points Roundabout all day (24 hours) from Saturday 24 May to Monday 26 May.

This is to install pipe crossing and unfortunately we're unable to keep the road open whilst we do this (the carriageway is too narrow to keep workers safe).

We're sorry for any disruption this causes.

We'll add road diversion signs for popular routes including Black Park Country Park and The Langley Hotel.

How we'll minimise disruption

Inspectors from our Streetworks team will be assessing the situation and ensure disruption is minimised.

Crews will be working extended hours all weekend to complete the work as quickly as possible.

We'll make every effort to maintain access for residents within the road closure (although there may be times when it is not safe to do so).

In the interests of health, safety and welfare, we cannot guarantee vehicular access within the confines of the working area while work takes place. Vehicles travelling during site working hours may be subject to lengthy delays.

You can view the dates and durations on the advanced warning notices on site.

Wood Lane reopening

We're reopening Wood Lane.

Traffic management after the bank holiday weekend

Following the bank holiday weekend road closure, the scheme will continue with a variety of traffic management arrangements to allow vehicles to travel through the site with minimum disruption.

Phase 1 (preparatory works and drainage)

The first phase will be carried out by Buckinghamshire Highways. Work will take place from 8am to 8pm on weekdays, with these extended hours adopted to complete the work as soon as possible.

10 June to 14 July 2024

Preparatory work including establishing through ground penetrating radar what utilities are already in place in some areas under the road and exactly where they are. This work will take place at the roundabout on Wood Lane, to the south.

Temporary traffic lights will be in use.

15 July through to late August 2024

Drainage improvement works involving closures of Wood Lane, with a one-way, clockwise system in place for access. Drivers will follow a diversion via the A4007 eastbound, then Bangors Road South southbound (where there will be temporary traffic lights), then B470 High Street and Langley Park Road westbound, then Wood Lane northbound.

Late August 2024 to October 2024

We are adapting our plans in response to what we discover as we progress our work at this site.

We have removed the road closure on Wood Lane and have consequently taken down the traffic lights on the diversion route. Instead, until 30 August there will be multi-way traffic lights operating 24/7 to control traffic, including at the weekend. This is so we can complete the final repairs to the existing drainage network on the west side of Wood Lane northbound.

Then from 2 September, the next element of the work will be on the roundabout itself and its Wood Lane and Uxbridge Road ‘arms’. We will put in place a combination of traffic management measures, including an additional road closure on Wood Lane for a short period. This may change as the scheme progresses, to minimise congestion as much as possible while ensuring the safety of our crews. This will enable us to lay drainage pipe from near the Crooked Billet Pub car park exit to the verge adjacent to the pub car park

As soon as we know the exact date of this road closure and the reinstatement of the traffic lights on Bangers Road South, we will deliver letters to homes and businesses in the area, update the information on this page and share it on social media (follow Buckinghamshire Highways on Facebook and X for the latest updates). Completion of this drainage element of the work at Five Points Roundabout is still forecast for the 11 October.

Phase 2 (traffic improvements)

After Buckinghamshire Highways’ work has been completed, contractors on behalf of Pinewood Studios will start on the major improvement works. This includes signalisation of the roundabout, pedestrian and cycle crossings and other associated infrastructure such as street lighting.

Before the works can begin, Pinewood Studios need to undertake seasonal bat surveys in advance of necessary tree removal works. Subject to the outcome of these bat surveys, additional environmental approvals may be required which could impact the start date.

Further phase (to be confirmed)

To minimise long term disruption, Buckinghamshire Highways has asked Pinewood Studios to update their highways design. This is to incorporate a power cable route which can be used by a statutory services provider in the future to prevent additional works at the roundabout.

Buckinghamshire Highways and Pinewood Studios need to work with the statutory services provider to develop the detailed design and obtain final approvals.

This work is provisionally scheduled to last until summer 2026.
