Improvements to Five Points Roundabout, Iver
May 2025 update
Buckinghamshire Highways is this month (May) restarting work at Five Points Roundabout, as following a successful re-procurement for the remaining work, significant savings have been secured for the council. The next stage of work will mainly focus on the drainage assets in and around the Five Points Roundabout itself.
This latest stage starts on the 12 May at the top of Wood Lane at its entrance to Five Points Roundabout. The works will consist of installing new drainage assets from the splitter island at the top of Wood Lane across to the footway adjacent to the Crooked Billet pub. The new drainage run will follow the path around towards Uxbridge Road before running the drainage across Uxbridge Road via a series of lane closures.
This work is expected to be completed by 27 June. As evidenced with this scheme already, unexpected third party assets within the carriageway that have not shown up on the usual comprehensive pre-work scans can require a change to plans.
To begin this stage of work, we are having to reinstall the road closure on Wood Lane with the diversion route along Bangor's Road South with traffic lights from the 12 May for two weeks. This is to complete the crossing at the top of Wood Lane to the footway to the west. The closure will be operating 24 hours a day, with working hours between 8am and 8pm on weekdays only.
After the road closure and lights are removed after two weeks, there will be a series of moving traffic management layouts switching from multi-way traffic lights, footway closures and lane closures as the work moves north on the Five Points Roundabout.
Improvements to Five Points Roundabout, Iver
Work is taking place on the busy A412 west of the Five Points Roundabout and Wood Lane south in Iver.
The works comprise:
- the signalisation of the roundabout to improve capacity and address existing congestion issues
- significant repairs and upgrades to the existing drainage infrastructure
This work will be completed in phases, with 3 different organisations involved:
- Buckinghamshire Council
- Pinewood Studios
- a statutory services provider
All 3 organisations are working together to co-ordinate the work and carry it out as efficiently as possible to keep the time required to complete it to a minimum.
Who co-ordinates roadworks
Our Streetworks Team is working with all 3 organisations to coordinate this planned work and postpone any other roadworks outside of this in the area to keep traffic moving as best they can (unless they are emergency works, which we are unable to stop).
Below you can find out more about what is planned and the timescales for the phases of the work.
This page will be updated as the project progresses.
Phase 1 – preparatory works and drainage scheme
The first phase will be carried out by Buckinghamshire Highways. Work will take place from 8am to 8pm on weekdays, with these extended hours adopted to complete the work as soon as possible.
10 June to 14 July 2024
Preparatory work including establishing through ground penetrating radar what utilities are already in place in some areas under the road and exactly where they are. This work will take place at the roundabout on Wood Lane, to the south.
Temporary traffic lights will be in use.
15 July through to late August 2024
Drainage improvement works involving closures of Wood Lane, with a one-way, clockwise system in place for access. Drivers will follow a diversion via the A4007 eastbound, then Bangors Road South southbound (where there will be temporary traffic lights), then B470 High Street and Langley Park Road westbound, then Wood Lane northbound.
Late August 2024 to October 2024
We are adapting our plans in response to what we discover as we progress our work at this site.
We have removed the road closure on Wood Lane and have consequently taken down the traffic lights on the diversion route. Instead, until 30 August there will be multi-way traffic lights operating 24/7 to control traffic, including at the weekend. This is so we can complete the final repairs to the existing drainage network on the west side of Wood Lane northbound.
Then from 2 September, the next element of the work will be on the roundabout itself and its Wood Lane and Uxbridge Road ‘arms’. We will put in place a combination of traffic management measures, including an additional road closure on Wood Lane for a short period. This may change as the scheme progresses, to minimise congestion as much as possible while ensuring the safety of our crews. This will enable us to lay drainage pipe from near the Crooked Billet Pub car park exit to the verge adjacent to the pub car park
As soon as we know the exact date of this road closure and the reinstatement of the traffic lights on Bangers Road South, we will deliver letters to homes and businesses in the area, update the information on this page and share it on social media (follow Buckinghamshire Highways on Facebook and X for the latest updates). Completion of this drainage element of the work at Five Points Roundabout is still forecast for the 11 October.
Phase 2 – Five Points Roundabout Traffic Improvement Works
After Buckinghamshire Highways’ work has been completed, contractors on behalf of Pinewood Studios will start on the major improvement works. This includes signalisation of the roundabout, pedestrian and cycle crossings and other associated infrastructure such as street lighting.
Before the works can begin, Pinewood Studios need to undertake seasonal bat surveys in advance of necessary tree removal works. Subject to the outcome of these bat surveys, additional environmental approvals may be required which could impact the start date.
Further phase (to be confirmed)
To minimise long term disruption, Buckinghamshire Highways has asked Pinewood Studios to update their highways design. This is to incorporate a power cable route which can be used by a statutory services provider in the future to prevent additional works at the roundabout.
Buckinghamshire Highways and Pinewood Studios need to work with the statutory services provider to develop the detailed design and obtain final approvals.
This work is provisionally scheduled to last until summer 2026.
