The Buckinghamshire Greenway
The Buckinghamshire Greenway is our vision for a continuous walking, wheeling and cycling route that goes through the length of Buckinghamshire (over 50 miles).
The route is being split into sections which will provide useful local links, create access to community amenities and connect to local public transport networks.
When complete, it will connect the entire county from the north (Silverstone) to the south (Colne Valley).

Future development
The way we're adding to the greenway enables us to build extensions to the different sections as we secure funding and consents for each section.

How the greenway interacts with HS2 works
The northern section is linked to the delivery of HS2 because it intersects with it in several locations.
We've agreed with HS2 Ltd and the Department for Transport that the greenway should be incorporated into the HS2 design at these points.
Misbourne Greenway
Active travel charity Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans) has led the design and construction of a 4-kilometre section of the Misbourne Greenway, connecting Dunsmore Lane, Wendover to Aylesbury Road, Great Missenden. This vital stretch enhances access to the countryside and supports sustainable travel in the Chilterns.
The project has been delivered with support from the Chiltern Society, Buckinghamshire Council, Network Rail, and Greenways and Cycle Routes, reflecting a strong collaborative effort across sectors.
Funding has been provided by the Department for Transport (DfT) as part of Walk Wheel Cycle’s ongoing programme to improve the National Cycle Network (NCN), making it safer, more accessible, and better connected for everyone.

How long it takes to travel the Misbourne Greenway
The greenway is 4 Kilometres long meaning it would take approximately:
- 55 minutes to walk the length of it
- 10 Minutes to cycle the length of it
Statement regarding Wendover – Wendover Dean section of the route.
The Misbourne Greenway will eventually continue northwards to connect Wendover Dean into the heart of Wendover. However, the route to Wendover intersects with the Small Dean Viaduct and the Wendover Green Tunnel, both currently under construction. Due to the interface with the ongoing major construction works in the area, HS2 Ltd are unable to provide a temporary route from Small Dean Lane to Wendover. There is no available route that would be safe for path users without significantly impacting construction activities. Buckinghamshire Council and HS2 Ltd are working to ensure that this ‘missing link’ between Wendover Dean and Wendover will be delivered upon completion of HS2 construction works. This will include HS2 Ltd delivering much of the path along the A413 London Road and the Council constructing the gap between Dunsmore Lane and where HS2 construction works stop. Buckinghamshire Council is working to secure this at the earliest possible opportunity
Benefits of greenways and cycle routes
Creating the greenway contributes towards our main council priorities, including:
- responding to climate change
- improving health by reducing congestion and encouraging exercise
- boosting local tourism
The greenway is accessible for all users. This builds on Buckinghamshire’s heritage as the birthplace of the Paralympics.
