Follow the Donkey
3. Bourne End Community Library
From a Railway Carriage after Robert Louis Stevens
Faster than Flash, faster than Buzz Lightyear,
Bridges and houses, hedges and castles;
And sprinting along like cheetahs,
All through the meadows the horses and playgrounds:
All of the sights of Bourne End
Fly as quick as a rocket;
And ever again, in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.
Here is a child who eats banana bread and apples
All by themself and does a little dance;
Here is a scamp who looks out the windows;
And there is the ticket inspector, quick!
Here is the child fast asleep
And snoring deeply.
And here is a mill and there is a river:
Each a glimpse and gone for ever!
