Studying at archives

We offer two areas for customers to study material:

Archives searchroom

It's essential to book a place in the searchroom if you wish to see original records.

On weekdays you can request up to 10 documents per session (morning or afternoon).

On a Saturday you can request up to 8 documents per session.

Documents must be ordered in advance.

To protect our precious documents, we do not allow pens, food or drinks in the archives searchroom. This includes water bottles.

Local history library

This contains maps, text books and other documents detailing local history. Let us know what you would like to use during your visit, for example a microfilm reader and reference books.

Computers are available for you to use and you may find it useful to bring a USB stick

You can use a camera in both our study areas, you will need to buy a permit.

Book an appointment

To book a morning or afternoon session in either room, email us with the date(s) you would like to visit. We will reply to confirm your place.
