Local priorities

We have identified priorities that we are working to address over the coming months:

  • the regeneration of Portland House, including local highway initiatives
  • improvement of green spaces
  • to improve traffic and road issues
  • reducing loneliness and social isolation for older adults through community engagement
  • youth engagement and inclusion
  • to Improve community spaces

Current projects

Regeneration of Portland House

We will work with the Highways Team to support the regeneration of Portland House (Arnison Avenue) and improve the surrounding highway infrastructure.

This will address local issues including:

  • parking challenges
  • pavement restoration
  • installation of new bollards
  • pothole repairs
  • elevation of the roundabout to deter dangerous driving
  • the clearing of blocked drains

We will also replace the planters.

Enrich green and community spaces

We will improve the visual appeal and overall quality of the following community spaces:

  • Hardenwaye Green: new fencing (so it’s safe for children to play), seat, and lidded bin
  • Hazelbury Road and Healy Avenue: to be made more attractive – more planting required
  • Leas Close and Keens Close: new trees to be planted and working with the Highways Team

Traffic and road issues

To investigate the following schemes:

  • traffic calming on Walton Drive, Hicks Farm Rise and Bowerdean Road
  • parking issues outside Kings Wood School and Hannah Ball School and on Healy Avenue
  • pathway patching on Perth Road and Wingate Avenue
  • new street lighting on Totteridge Road, Underwood Road, Hatters Lane, Kingston Road and Wingate Avenue
  • new bollards on Wingate Road
  • repair broken disabled handrails in Bowerdean

Social isolation and loneliness in older people

We held a seasonal afternoon tea for older adults in December 2025.

We also continue to promote the Move Together Bucks scheme (managed by Public Health and Active in the Community) and other initiatives around health and wellbeing.

Youth cricket tournament

A youth cricket tournament will be organised to allow social connection, encourage positive engagement and strengthen community cohesion.

We are aiming to create new schemes to help youth engagement and inclusion.

Totteridge Community Centre

To replace the damaged external notice board to improve the visibility and promotion of local information and services. We have also asked the Highways Team to repaint the white line marker at the entrance for improved visibility and accessibility.
