Children from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds wait longer to be adopted. We’re looking for adoptive parents who can identify with them and celebrate all that their culture and religion brings. Could you adopt a child in need?
Alisha and Aran

Could you provide a forever home to children like Alisha and Aran?
Alisha and Aran* are aged 8 and 2, and were sadly removed from their parents following neglect. The brother and sister are dual heritage - their mother being White British and father being British Pakistani, and celebrate both Christian and Muslim festivals. Alisha and Aran need adopters who can help them to explore their cultural heritage as they grow, and most importantly, allow them to continue living together. Could you provide a forever home to children like Alisha and Aran?
There are around 500 children in care in Buckinghamshire, with approximately 25 waiting to be adopted at any one time, and children from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds typically wait longer to be adopted. We are always seeking adoptive parents from all backgrounds, faiths and ethnic groups to support the wide range of children we have. Being adopted by a parent or parents who can support and celebrate their cultural and religious identity has a positive impact on the child’s sense of identity and heritage.

Life story workers
At Buckinghamshire Council our life story workers support children in making sense of their past and present so that they can look forward to their future with an understanding of their history.
Buckinghamshire Council life story workers do this through play, activities, books and conversation with children, whilst building a trusting positive relationship with child and family to allow space to share thoughts and feelings of their life.
“As life story workers we help children understand their family history and cultural/ethnic heritage to develop a positive sense of who they are. Identity is linked to emotional well-being and self-esteem and we encourage children to understand their roots and to be proud of themselves!”, Debbie, Life Story Worker
