Safeguarding advice for market traders

Buckinghamshire Council takes its responsibilities to protect children and vulnerable adults seriously and encourages its contractors, casual employees and volunteers to adopt the same proactive stance in order to keep children and vulnerable adults safe.

A suggested code of conduct for market traders would be:

a) Work safely and responsibly and be aware of responsibility for own actions and behaviour. Avoid any conduct which would lead any reasonable person to question motivation and intentions

b) It is the responsibility of all adults to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, as well as vulnerable adults

c) Do not give your personal contact details to children or young people, including mobile telephone number

e) Avoid being in contact with a child or vulnerable adult alone

f) Do not use profane or inappropriate language around children and vulnerable adults

i) Report any signs of abuse aimed at children or vulnerable adults that you may observe.
