WhizzFizz 2026

WhizzFizz is back for 2026 with a series of fantastic family-friendly activities and events celebrating creativity and community.

Taking place over the summer in Aylesbury, Chesham and High Wycombe, you’ll find a vibrant line-up of free cultural events and activities including a children’s art competition, immersive storytelling, glove-puppet shows, lively performances, arts & crafts and interactive entertainment.

Children's Art Competition

To celebrate the National Year of Reading, WhizzFizz invites children to bring stories to life through art. Create a drawing, painting or collage (maximum size A3) inspired by a story you love and take part in our Children’s Art Competition. The competition is open to children aged 15 and under.

Competition closes:

Friday 31 July 2026 – please ensure your artwork is handed in to your local Buckinghamshire Library before 1 August 2026.

Calling all young artists!

Prizes:
There are three award categories:

  • 6 years and under
  • 7 to 11 years
  • 12 to 15 years

Each age category will have a winner and a runner‑up, with prizes awarded in every category.

Winners will be notified by Saturday 15 August 2026.

The exhibition will open on Saturday 22 August 2026.

Whizz Fizz will pop up in libraries across Buckinghamshire with a packed programme of fun activities and performances for children and families, all celebrating reading, stories and creativity.

Hickory Dickory Dock

Garlic Theatre’s glove‑puppet show comes to libraries across Buckinghamshire this summer. Follow a brave little mouse, a magnificent clock and plenty of slapstick fun in this lively family performance inspired by the much‑loved rhyme.

Games With James: Board games live on stage at Chesham

A slightly chaotic interactive family friendly game show, playing 'giant' versions of classic board games such as Buckaroo, Guess Who, Hungry Hippos and more, played like never before. Award-winning comedian and UK board gaming champion James Cook invites you to play board games live on stage. As seen at the Edinburgh Fringe, Comedy 4 Kids, and festivals in the UK.

Old McDonald and the Three Pigs Plus at Chesham

Old McDonald and the Three Pigs Plus weaves the well-known story of the 'Three Little Pigs' with the easy to learn rhyme of Old McDonald Had A Farm. The Three Pigs are fed up with singing “Eee aye eee aye oh!” every day and so bravely decide to move away from Old McDonald’s farm.

So come along and help the kind farmer and all of their animal friends to assist the little pigs build homes of their own, but beware.....the Big Bad Wolf is on the prowl. Can you help save the day and stop the wolf blowing all the pigs' hard work away?

A Feast of Poetry for children

A children's poetry workshop - reading, writing, and performing poetry.

This is a fun, interactive, and exciting session with local poets Janet Gibbs and Karen Luke. Learn how to read and / or perform poetry.

Every child taking part must have a place booked for them, adults are required to stay during the session but don't need a ticket.

African Drumming Workshop for Children at Chesham

An amazing, hands-on experience!

These African Drumming Workshops immerse children in the vibrant traditions of West African music. With a djembe for every child, they will learn how to create rhythms and beats under the guidance of an expert drummer. The children's imaginations and creativity will be ignited through composing and experimenting with rhythms and beat.

On Saturday 1 August, from 10:30am to 3:30pm, Friars Square Shopping centre will host a WhizzFizz Family Fun Day full of arts and crafts, lively performances and interactive entertainment. Expect balloon creativity, hula‑hoop fun, storytelling and plenty of chances to join in and get creative.

At Eden Shopping Centre, join us on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, from 11am to 3pm on both days, for another WhizzFizz Family Fun event.

Enjoy theatre performances, storytelling, dance, and plenty of arts and crafts, with creative activities inspired by nature and the environment. A relaxed, imaginative weekend for families to drop in and take part together.
