Apply for a highway developer licence, agreement or road space booking

Buckinghamshire has a vast network of roads linking our towns and villages to strategic/national routes. The council, as Highway Authority, manages this network by insisting that all road works are booked onto our road space booking system. This allows us to co-ordinate works effectively to ensure traffic disruption is kept to a minimum and that we can control the road network in times of emergency.

It is an offence under the Traffic Management Act 2004 to carry out works within the public highway without prior consent from the Highway Authority. Works carried out within Buckinghamshire in contravention to this Act with be issued a Fixed Penalty Notice in accordance with the Department for Transport NRSWA 1991: Code of Practice for the Co-ordination of Street Works.

Any works planned within the public highway must have an approved road space booking.

Booking road space avoids conflicts with others planning to do work at the same time and ensures impact to the local vicinity is kept to a minimum.

Ensure you have the appropriate licence/agreement in place before booking road space to carry out the works.

It costs £165 per road space booking.
