Active travel fund schemes
Active travel schemes aim to encourage residents to undertake more local journeys by foot and by bike.
The schemes could also have longer-term benefits, including:
- reduced congestion
- improved air quality
- improved community cohesion
- better public health
They will also help to contribute to our policy in combating climate change and are part of wider government plans to boost active travel.
Funding
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced in November 2020 a further £175 million to create safe space for cycling and walking. Surveys and independent polls show strong public support for high-quality schemes.
We have received £1,748,000 to develop schemes within the county.
