Special Bank Holiday - Impacts to services

Buckinghamshire Council will close its operations on Monday 19 September in recognition of the Special Bank Holiday introduced for the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is to allow staff across the organisation the opportunity to pay their respects and observe Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Please see below for specific impacts to services including revised timetables and guidance. All emergency arrangements will remain in place to ensure support is continuously available for vulnerable residents.

Access to council offices to sign books of condolence

Members of the public will still be able to access council buildings hosting books of condolence between 9am and 5pm on Monday 19 September.

Revised bin collections and closure of household recycling centres

Bin collections across Buckinghamshire will be operating to a revised timetable. All collections the week commencing Monday 19 September will take place one day later than usual.

Buckinghamshire’s 9 household recycling centres will be closed on Monday 19 September. The sites will reopen and operate as normal on Tuesday 20 September.

Schools

The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed that schools and colleges will close on Monday 19 September as a mark of respect.

Buckinghamshire’s schools have been asked by the Council to formally contact parents/carers as soon as possible to inform them of closures. Please visit your school’s website for further information.

Registrars, crematoria and cemeteries

Buckinghamshire Council’s registrars, crematoria and cemeteries will continue to operate on Monday 19 September to honour the commitments to ceremonies and services that are already booked.

Adult Learning classes

There will be no Adult Learning classes on Monday 19 September and all classes due to have started on that date will now be delayed by 1 week to resume on Monday 26 September. As applicable, your tutor will discuss with you when this missed session will be made up.

Parks and green spaces

Council owned and managed parks and green spaces will remain open on Monday 19 September, as places for quiet reflection and remembrance.

The toilets and catering at Denham Country Park will be closed and only very limited catering, through mobile units, will be available at Black Park and Langley Park.

Public convenience facilities at other Council owned and managed parks and green spaces will be open as usual. All visitors are asked to be considerate of other users.

Family Centres

The Family Support Service will be closed on Monday 19 September.

Family Centres will not be running any sessions and the Family Information Service (FIS) telephone line will be closed.

Buses

Buckinghamshire buses will be operating a Sunday timetable on Monday 19 September.
