Only two weeks to go until this year’s WhizzFizzFest!
The countdown has begun for this year’s family-friendly literary and arts festival WhizzFizzFest, taking place in Aylesbury town centre on Saturday 2 July from 10.30am to 4pm.
With just 2 weeks to go until the big day, everyone’s invited to take a look at the incredible selection of activities, events and entertainment for all festivalgoers to enjoy. Buckinghamshire Council is delighted to be welcoming two best-selling, family-favourite authors to WhizzFizzFest. We are also excited to see the return of a variety of friends, including Queens Park Arts Centre, who will be attending the event with their Unbound Theatre performances written for WhizzFizzFest, and Festive Road, who will be back with amazing giant puppets. DJ Dan Blaze will also return and host the main stage performances throughout the day. Adding to the fun, the event offers a bunch of different free activities for all to enjoy.
This year’s exciting literary line-up includes best-selling author Chris Smith, who will be introducing his new laugh-out-loud book ‘Frankie Best Hates Quests’, and multi-award-winning author-illustrator Lauren Child, whose books are known and loved all over the world. Tickets for these headlining events are available on the WhizzFizzFest website.
WhizzFizzFest is also delighted to welcome some new (and familiar) literary faces to the festival. Joining the celebration is a fantastic selection of local authors including Christine Tennent with ‘Horace Burp’, Darren St Mart with ‘The Lowly Chicken’, Jill Stanton-Huxton with ‘Harvey and the Moon Bus’ and Rachel Sherfield with ‘Mrs Blossom and Sniffy’. WhizzFizzFest welcomes all amazing authors playing their part to help inspire the imaginations and creativity of local children.
Tickets are also available for our interactive Book Club for Super-Spies show at Aylesbury Library – but don’t worry if you can’t make it, as the show will be visiting Amersham, Burnham, Beaconsfield, Buckingham, Bourne End and High Wycombe libraries, too. The show is for 5–11-year-olds and their families and promises to be an epic adventure!
The stunning, walled garden of Discover Bucks Museum, located in the heart of Aylesbury’s historic old town, will host three step-by-step art classes with help from the Brush Party. You can drink, chat and create your very own masterpiece – all while having fun. Get your tickets now!
Alongside our amazing headliners and ticketed events, WhizzFizzFest is also excited to offer a variety of fantastical free entertainment. In true WhizzFizz tradition, a number of school children from across Aylesbury Vale will take part in a spectacular children’s parade. The parade will feature costumes and puppets made by the children themselves during artist workshops they’ve attended in the run-up to the day. The parade, which starts at St Mary’s Church at 10.30am, will bring colour, music and creativity to the town centre.
The Main Stage has an amazing and diverse schedule of entertainment for all to enjoy. Festival goers can enjoy Live Art competitions, check out the Young Artists’ Showcase, watch performances from Adele Peters Performing Arts School, and admire spellbinding acts from new musical ‘Hexwood School of Sorcery’. On the stage you can also enjoy Magic Frostie shows, magic from Sean Bless and music from Kaylie.
And the selection of free activities and entertainment doesn’t stop there! There’s stilt walkers, a Disney Princess, live music, dancers, street performers, a giant art mural, Festive Road creative workshops, a Snappy Snaps selfie stall and the debut of ‘WhizzFizzFest after hours (for 14+) to enjoy at The Petri Dish, where you can enjoy stand-up comedy and live music at the Petri Dish café bar.
Clive Harriss, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said:
