His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire The Countess Howe announces new Deputy Lieutenant
George Anson has today been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire receiving his commission to take on the role from The Countess Howe, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire.
George was born in Canada to a Canadian mother and British father. He spent most of his formative years in Iowa in the American Midwest. He went to the University of Iowa where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance.
George moved to the United Kingdom and started his career in the City working initially for GT Management, before moving to Hancock Venture Partners (later HarbourVest Partners) in 1990 where he was a founder and partner for 27 years overseeing their European and Asian activities. George retired from HarbourVest Partners in June 2017.
He has been married to Kirsty for 37 years, and they have three grown-up children. They have lived in north Buckinghamshire since 1990.
George is involved with a number of charitable and not-for-profit organisations and is a keen golfer and sportsman.
Deputy Lieutenants are appointed from across Buckinghamshire, from Milton Keynes in the north to the very south of Buckinghamshire, to support the work of the Lord-Lieutenant and promote the wellbeing of the county. Aiming to reflect the diversity of Buckinghamshire in terms of their skills and experience, cultural backgrounds, gender and social range, their local and specialist knowledge is increasingly being used to positive effect in key sectors ranging from education, health and youth services to business and the rural economy. They are the eyes and ears of the Lieutenancy in our local communities and liaise closely with many organisations throughout the county. Buckinghamshire currently has 28 Deputy Lieutenants.
Lady Howe offered her personal congratulations, saying: “The appointment of George Anson as Deputy Lieutenant of the county comes with my warmest wishes to him for a successful and rewarding period in office. George brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to serving the community and has so much to offer the county. I look forward to working with him for the benefit of our communities.”
