Prevent Community Roundtable
The Community Roundtable is an opportunity to hear from senior members of the Home Office on the Prevent Strategy and find out what is happening locally.
The purpose of Prevent is to safeguard and support vulnerable people to stop them from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Prevent work also extends to supporting the rehabilitation and disengagement of those already involved in terrorism.
Prevent works in a similar way to programmes designed to safeguard people from the influence of gangs, involvement in county lines, and child sexual exploitation. Success means an enhanced response to tackle the causes of radicalisation, in communities and online; and continued effective support to those who are vulnerable to radicalisation.
The objectives of Prevent are to:
- tackle the causes of radicalisation and respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism
- safeguard and support those most at risk of radicalisation through early intervention, identifying them and offering support
- assist those who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate
The objective of Prevent in Buckinghamshire is to reach the small number of people who are vulnerable to being drawn into terrorist-related activities, and to support them. In addition, Prevent will support those who may not have a clear ideology but are vulnerable to be drawn into extreme acts of violence.
The Prevent Community Roundtable is an opportunity for partners and members of public to hear from senior officials from the Home Office, and to ask questions about the Prevent Strategy. The agenda will include an update on what Buckinghamshire Council are doing in terms of the Prevent Strategy locally.
The Prevent Community Roundtable will take place on Thursday 26 May 2022, from 6pm to 7:30pm.
Tea, Coffee, and soft drinks with light refreshments will be provided.
