Extra Council Tax charges for long-term empty properties
If you own a property that has been empty for a long period of time, you may have to pay more Council Tax.
This is known as a Council Tax empty homes premium.
Property that has been empty for 2 to 5 years
If a property is empty for between 2 and 5 years, your Council Tax bill will be twice as much as an occupied property (a 200% charge).
Property that has been empty for 5 to 10 years
If a property is empty for between 5 and 10 years, your Council Tax bill will be three times as much as an occupied property (a 300% charge).
Property that has been empty for more than 10 years
If a property is empty for more than 10 years, your Council Tax will be four times as much as you'd normally pay for an occupied property (400% charge).
