Re-opening our town centres and high streets

On the 15 June, the Government announced the re-opening of non-essential retail. We have been working in partnership with our local businesses and communities to ensure that this process has been as safe as possible. Since our high streets have re-opened, we have aimed to keep the changes to a minimum. However, things have looked and felt a little different as we have worked together to introduce vital measures to ensure social distancing is maintained.

In many places, you have seen markers on the pavements, one way pedestrian routes and visible directional signage to help remind you to take care, stay safe and to guide you.

We have worked with local businesses and town and parish councils to do our best to make sure that people have been able to get into towns and move around them safely. All signage for the town centres and high streets produced by Buckinghamshire Council has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund and HM Government.

We have produced guidance for town centres and high streets to consider for ‘re-opening’ and will be sharing more detailed information about the arrangements we’re putting in place as they become available.
